POT COLLECTION DESIGN

3D Scanning / Modelling

We work with local ceramic artists and potters to bring some of our ideas to life in clay. These handmade samples were all one-of-a-kind, showing true artistry in the details / imperfections. To make sure we could replicate the details and capture as much as that handmade feel, I would 3D scan them with my personal Peel 3 scanner. My scans are accurate down to .01mm, so we could replicate the handmade pieces exactly 1:1 in digital format. We would use this 3D data to work with the factories, so that the final pieces are as close to those unique handmade pieces as possible.

Core Product Design

Livetrend’s ‘core’ design process starts 18 months out for each season. We begin with trend research, where we dial in what the feel and rough look of each collection should look like based on trends and design inspiration we curate from a variety of outlets. In this brief we will layout how the collection should ‘feel’, colors, shapes and materials.

Once we have a sketch ideas solidified we will move into the CAD and rendering process to show to sales for final approval before physical sample ordering. AI tools we use in the sketching phase will sometimes give us renders straight from sketches that we can use to show and approve designs. Most of the designs however, require more complex 3D modelling and renders.

Initial samples are ordered, and when they arrive, we review in person and send back and revisions. Sometimes they come back perfect first time, sometimes it takes us 4-5 rounds of revisions to get an item to market. Once we have the approved final samples, our marketing team curate sales catalogues to send to customers and we begin rolling out product to thousands of stores all over the world!
